Courtney Lynn & Quinn take the Stage at Hattie’s Tavern: Monday Music Spotlight

Amidst the center of Charlotte playing host to The NBA All-Star Game, the Queen City still operated as it does in & around visitors swooping in. Closer to Uptown, but just far enough away, Hattie’s Tavern is becoming a favorite venue for its low-key atmosphere, mixed genre of crowds, and not in the least the decent space that hosts local acts every Friday & Saturday night. This week, it just so happened that a pair of soulful voices radiated upon that stage, & their names were Courtney Lynn & Quinn Henderson.

Hailing from distances as far away as Los Angeles & Indiana, this collective of  musical minds, with long-time collaborator Steven Cornacchia on drums & Luke Barnette on Bass, came together in the Charlotte Scene, putting together their first album, “Wander Years”, in 2017. Drawing together Courtney’s Lyrical heart with Quinn’s fiery passion to bring her partner’s stories to life, they’ve come to life time & again across the city they now call home.

Originally, I came upon their group as a mid-day session last November as part of the “Last Page” Music Festival happening in all of NoDa’s music hubs. The combined duo’s soulful tones carried me along similar routes akin to The Band Perry’s darling vocalist Kimberly. Certain deeper soulful leanings packaged with self-awareness present in “Change” & the title track “Wandering Soul” move the heart the way a younger Sugarland might, bearing painful truths while the band complements & carries the graceful weight.

From their site, as there are no better words;

“Fusing their passion for folk, soul, and indie music old and new, Courtney Lynn & Quinn have established their own sound among the ever-growing Charlotte music scene. Channeling the folk harmonies of Joseph, with the captivating songwriting of James Bay, CLQ bring passionate, beautiful melodies to their songs blended with soulful, expressive harmonies fueled by their emotional journey through life.

Their bright personalities and riveting live performances have been garnering the attention of industry talent nationwide. Recently they’ve being featured as a standout artist on NPR’s Charlotte music playlist ‘Amplifier’, featured in Creative Loafing Magazine, performed on NBC’s ‘Charlotte Today’, and won the national Songwriter Universe Contest for their original music. The band maintains a packed performance schedule, and are currently deep in the songwriting process for their next record – a darker, grittier, and more soulful expression of their sound and growth as a band.”

Right now, Courtney, Quinn & the rest are crafting together their next project studio album, and we, the Charlotte Scene & Beyond, can take part in helping them along the way. The pair put up a video at the end of 2018 announcing the new development, as well as adding in how we can assist in bringing their dreams into fruition. I’ll be posting that below, as well as their Spotify so you have an opportunity to hear more.

Give them some love when you see them playing in the scene, as this is only the beginning of their story. I promise that much ~
