Happy Wednesday, all!
In what’s becoming a trend for Nintendo, this Tuesday came with an announcement for a *New* Nintendo Direct to be aired the next day. For us on the East Coast, that time was 9am, & now we have something else big to be excited about for 2019!
Welcome to the world of Pokemon Sword & Pokemon Shield! This time around, we’ll be traveling through the misty hills of Galar.
Almost completely opposite of the Aloha Region from Gen. VII, players will travel up through hills & valleys during this adventure. From the trailer itself, as well as how our trainer avatars are dressed, our speculation is that the inspiration for this area might be Scotland/Ireland, where people tend to think of cooler weather & treacherous yet lush terrain. The format seems set to have the flow of the game go from the bottom to the top, but I guess we’ll have to wait till the game drops to test that hypothesis.
A big takeaway from the trailer is that, in fact, is that Sword & Shield will play like the original titles did, and not like Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee. While that game is part of the main franchise, the “Let’s Go” game was an introduction into the franchise & aimed at gathering more casual fans as well as for a newer, younger audience in which that might be their first dive into the Pokemon World. That isn’t to say at it wasn’t for veterans as well, but it was a more simplistic remake of the original game that started it all, with Pokemon Go mechanics to spice it up. Players of that title will also most certainly love the new generation, appealing to the broader fan-base.
Our new starters are going to be Grookey, Scorbunny, & Sobble. Grookey is our grass-type, Scorbunny is our fire-type, & Sobble is our water-type. There’s a bit of speculation on whether Scorbunny might end up being part electric, from what we’ve seen on social media, but that will likely be revealed within the coming months.
Pokemon Sword & Shield will launch World-Wide in late 2019, adding to yet another great addition for the Nintendo Switch!
