On Wednesday night, many of the Charlotte’s prominent female performers came out in support of the CLT Femme Fest, happening over in Camp North End’s Boileryard district. Along with each act bringing a spotlight to their corner of the Queen City’s music scene, those that were present also are leaders in the local community.
Hey Richard, consisting of Pachyderm Music Lab‘s Krystle Baller, guitarist Sarah Kuhaneck, drummer Laura Staples, and keyboardist Savanna Baxter, all met while volunteering at Girls Rock Charlotte, a local organization that works to empower girls and women through music and film. Natalie Carr, along with Modern Moxie, helmed by Madison Lucas, support the local scene through charity events such as Queen City Streams and Tribute To Benefit’s Love Thy Neighbor concert, which donated to Roof Above for this year’s show. ReeCee Raps, on top of being an entrepreneur, curates events to spotlight developing talents in the area as well as utilizes her DOAP Events platform in bringing awareness to domestic violence, and along with backing many of the female hip-hop acts in the city with her R&B inspired mixes, See Bird Go regularly works with LGBTQA+ events as one of Charlotte’s top DJ’s.
Backing the mid-February show, the Charlotte chapter of the Pink Boots Society is part of an international non-profit that seeks to help advance the careers of women and non-binary individuals in or seeking to be a part of the beer industry through education, mentorship, and networking with leaders in the field. The event, serving as a kick-off to the 2022 Pink Boots National Conference, featured an art show and a VIP-Area Meet & Greet alongside the main music event.
